Do you ever reach for a book and you look at the cover and the title and ask yourself, “What was I thinking?”I did that with this book.
I settled down one night for bed (my reading time), opened the book on my Kindle and just stared at it, wondering what I was thinking when I agreed to reading the book.
I have to admit though, I am glad I was “forced” to read it because I actually really enjoyed it.
It is a short, easy read. (Seriously. It’s 60 pages.)
I could have read it in one sitting, but being that I read at night before bed, my reading time was split in two due to my sleepiness. I think in total – maybe 2 hours.
The words were human. Easy to understand. No mumble jumble stuff that goes over your head. Just plain old English.
There were questions that made you think, real life examples that motivated. Words that stuck with you.
After reading it, a lot of what I read would come back to me when it came to my meals and my eating behavior. I have a reading comprehension issue, but I didn’t have any trouble remembering the basics of the 8 secrets.
If you are looking for a real life book that has 8 secrets to help change your eating behavior – to have words that resonate and stick with you to help remind you of your eating behavior – I recommend this book.
Seriously, it’s 60 pages. What do you have to lose (besides weight) to give it a try?

Attract Your Ideal Weight 8 Secrets of People Who Lose Weight and Keep It Off Zaheen Nanji 9781624520037 Books Reviews
This is not just another diet book. In fact, it’s not really a diet book at all. Instead, Zaheen Nanji has incorporated her life coaching and her passion for Law of Attraction into a new way of eating—and living. Attracting Your Idea Weight 8 Secrets of People Who Lose Weight and Keep it Off explores the relationship between how we view food and how we view life.
The book is geared towards people who are ready to delve into the reasons behind their struggle with weight, as this is only way to permanently transcend the obstacles. For example, many women sabotage their diets because their husbands may be uncomfortable with them becoming thinner and therefore potentially more attractive to other men. Attracting Your Ideal Weight teaches us how to heal these other issues even as we are improving our physical health.
Nanji’s plan does include nutritional planning and healthy food choices, but unlike so many diet plans, it does not include denial. It’s all about changing one’s mindset. For example, if one of her clients wants a cookie, she encourages them to choose another, healthier food that will satisfy that craving for sweets. Eating a Fiber One or a granola bar will stave away the craving and keep him/her empowered and motivated.
More importantly, Attracting Your Ideal Weight does not focus on society’s fluctuating—and often unattainable—standards of beauty. The person’s goal is not to be thin, but to reach the weight at which they feel comfortable in the own skin. Success is measured not by the size of their clothes, but how at ease they move in them.
The best of this book is that it gives us the tools to change many areas of our lives, not just the number on the scale.
This book would be helpful to those who have always struggled with their weight. But it is not beneficial to a person in her 60s who has suddenly gained 40 lbs for no reason, except changing climates and becoming terrifically happy. Having been slim and athletic all my life, and eaten whatever I wanted, it is an absolute shock to me to suddenly be overweight. Eating between 900 and 1200 calories a day and continuing my active life style on a daily basis, including counting every single calorie I consume, for the last 11 months has just barely taken a pound a day off me. As this book says, if you're already doing everything you should be, then this book isn't for you.
I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for simple, straightforward advice on how to reach your weight loss goals. This is not some overly detailed, complicated diet or exercise plan (if that’s what you’re looking for, there’s no shortage of these types of book on the market), just targeted secrets/tips gleaned from the experience of men and women who’ve lost weight and kept it off. It’s a quick and painless read, making it easy to review and reread. Each of the eight tips includes details about the experiences of real people who’ve successfully maintained their weight loss, which lends credibility. At the same time, it shows restraint by not beating you over the head with tons of research, client scenarios, minute details, and other things that often clog down other books of this type.
I’ve read a lot of different weight loss books, and rarely have I been able to finish the entire book because I get fatigued with the level of detail and information overload. Not so with this little gem! I read it in about an hour and found many things that resonated with me. In particular, Secret #6 about the mind/body connection was really great stuff. I also appreciated that the author makes it a point to say that ideal body weight means the weight that truly works for your body―which is not necessarily what society or other people (including you) thinks your body weight *should* be. So if you’re constantly fighting to keep off the same 5 or 10 pounds, maybe you need to accept that your body’s ideal weight includes those measly extra pounds you’ve been struggling with.
All in all, I found the advice realistic and uncomplicated. (Of course, simple is not the same as “easy”. You still have to be willing to do the work, which is true no matter what approach to weight loss you choose.) There’s no “magic bullet” here (and really, there’s no such thing), but the book clearly explains that it is possible to change your relationship to food, and offers sound tips on how to do that. It promotes a HEALTHY approach to weight loss, including realistic tips on how to accept and deal with the eventual setbacks. I enjoyed it very much.
